Troubleshooting
Most issues fall into one of four buckets: authentication, the connector not showing up, unexpected tool errors, or table data not rendering the way you expect. Work through the relevant section below — if none of it helps, grab the error text and ping support (see the bottom of the page).
Authentication
"Reauth required" or 401 errors mid-conversation
Your Syntropic session expired. Sign in again:
- Claude.ai / Claude Desktop — Settings → Connectors → Syntropic → Reconnect.
- Claude Code — run
/mcpand select Re-authenticate. - Codex CLI — rerun
codex mcp login syntropic. - Cursor / Windsurf — the client should prompt automatically on the next tool call; if not, remove and re-add the server in settings.
- ChatGPT — Settings → Connectors → Syntropic → Reconnect.
- Clients using
mcp-remote— delete~/.mcp-auth/and restart the client.
OAuth window opens but the consent screen says "Invalid client"
The server URL you configured is wrong. Double-check it's exactly https://mcp.getsyntropic.com/mcp with no trailing slash and no typo in the subdomain.
I don't have a Syntropic account
Sign up at getsyntropic.com using Google. The connector only works with an active Syntropic account — it authenticates you against whatever workspaces your account belongs to.
"Sign in with Google" shows a different account than I expected
You're signed into the wrong Google account in your browser. Sign out (or open an incognito window) and retry the connector sign-in flow with the account that owns your Syntropic workspace.
Connector setup
Syntropic isn't listed in Claude.ai's connectors menu
Make sure the connector is toggled on for the current chat. Click the 🔌 icon below the message box and verify the Syntropic row shows a green dot.
Connector doesn't show up in Claude after I add it
- Fully quit and reopen Claude Desktop (a window reload isn't enough).
- In Claude.ai, reload the page.
- Check the 🔌 menu below the message box — the Syntropic toggle needs to be on for the current chat.
Claude Code says syntropic: connection failed
Run claude mcp get syntropic to see the configured URL and scope. Common issues:
- Wrong URL — re-add with
claude mcp remove syntropic && claude mcp add --transport http syntropic https://mcp.getsyntropic.com/mcp. - Scoped to the wrong project — add
--scope userto make it global. - Firewall / proxy — your network needs to allow outbound HTTPS to
mcp.getsyntropic.com.
Codex / Cursor / Windsurf / Zed can't reach the server
See Connect from other MCP clients for the exact config per client. General checklist:
- URL is
https://mcp.getsyntropic.com/mcpexactly — no trailing slash, no typos. - Your network allows outbound HTTPS to
mcp.getsyntropic.com. - If the client doesn't support Streamable HTTP + OAuth natively (e.g., Zed today), bridge via
mcp-remote— see themcp-remotefallback.
ChatGPT connector won't write (read-only)
OpenAI currently restricts write-capable custom MCP connectors to Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces. On Plus/Pro, reads work but writes do not. This is an OpenAI plan limitation, not a Syntropic one.
Tool errors
"No workspaces found"
The account you authenticated with isn't a member of any Syntropic workspace. Check the email you used in the OAuth flow and make sure you've been invited to the right workspace.
"Tool call requires approval"
The table has an approval workflow enabled and your write went to the pending queue. Open the Syntropic web app, review, and approve or reject. Claude will not retry automatically.
"Connection test failed" on a specific connection
Run the test_connection tool (ask: "test my snowflake-prod connection"). The error message will point at the real cause — expired warehouse creds, network policy, revoked role, etc. Update the connection in the Syntropic web app.
A write succeeded in the chat but I don't see it in the warehouse
- Check approval status — the change may be pending.
- Check the
get_table_historyaudit trail to confirm the write was recorded. - For S3-backed tables, propagation can take a few seconds — refresh your warehouse view.
Table viewer
Tables come back as plain Markdown instead of the interactive grid
The grid only renders on hosts that implement the MCP Apps UI spec — Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, and ChatGPT (in Developer Mode). Terminal or API-direct clients (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, Zed, API direct) fall back to Markdown or JSON. See the compatibility table in Interactive table viewer.
The grid loads but cells are read-only everywhere
Your Syntropic role on that workspace is read-only, or the table has row-level rules locking the rows you're viewing. Hover a cell to see the exact reason.
Edits fail with "validation failed"
One or more quality rules rejected your value. The error message names the rule (e.g. range violation on column price). Fix the value and retry, or look at the rule in the Syntropic web app under the table's Quality tab.
Still stuck?
Email [email protected] with:
- The Claude client you're using (Claude.ai / Desktop / Code) and its version
- The tool name that failed and the exact error text
- A short description of what you asked Claude to do
We read every message.
