Syntropic over MCP
Syntropic hosts a remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that lets any MCP-compatible AI agent work with your tables in natural language. Once connected, the agent can discover your warehouses, read and edit table data, inspect schemas, track changes, and enforce data-quality rules — all scoped to the permissions of your Syntropic account.
The server speaks the standard MCP Streamable HTTP transport and authenticates with OAuth 2.1, so it works with Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, Zed, and any other client that supports remote MCP servers.
What agents can do
With the Syntropic MCP server connected, the agent can:
- Browse your workspaces and connections — list Snowflake, Databricks, MotherDuck, and S3 connections attached to your workspace.
- Read tables — query table data with pagination, column filtering, and row filters.
- Edit data — insert, update, or delete rows; bulk-import CSV; add, drop, or rename columns.
- Manage data quality — add validation rules (character length, numeric range, date constraints) and see violations before a write is committed.
- Audit changes — view who changed what and when, with row-level diffs for any historical change.
- Respect approvals — writes that require approval stay pending in Syntropic; the agent surfaces the pending state instead of silently failing.
Supported warehouses
- Snowflake
- Databricks
- MotherDuck
- Amazon S3
Supported clients
Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth works. Tested and documented here:
- Claude.ai and Claude Desktop — recommended for non-developers
- ChatGPT
- Claude Code
- Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, Zed, and other MCP clients
All clients use the same endpoint:

Authentication
Authentication uses OAuth 2.1 against your Syntropic account. There are no API keys to manage — the first time you use a tool, the client opens a browser window where you sign in to Syntropic with Google (or your organization's SSO on Enterprise workspaces). The session token is then passed through on every tool call, so the MCP server only ever sees data your Syntropic account is already authorized to access.
Data handling
- MCP calls run with the permissions of the authenticated Syntropic user. The connector cannot access workspaces, connections, or tables that user cannot access in the Syntropic web app.
- Table rows requested through the connector are transmitted to the MCP client and its model provider so the request can be completed. Review that provider's data-handling terms before connecting it to sensitive data.
- Syntropic processes table data without persistently copying it out of the connected warehouse. Connection credentials are encrypted and remain server-side.
- See the Syntropic Privacy Policy for collection, usage, sharing, and retention details.
Interactive table viewer
Hosts that support the MCP Apps UI spec, including ChatGPT and Claude, render table reads as an interactive grid with inline editing, bulk import, and approval status. Other clients receive the same data as Markdown or JSON — every tool still works. See Interactive table viewer for details.
