Connect to Claude Code

Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding CLI. You can wire Syntropic into Claude Code with a single command so the agent can inspect and edit data alongside your source code.

1. Add the server

Run this from any directory:

claude mcp add --transport http syntropic https://mcp.getsyntropic.com/mcp

This registers Syntropic at the user scope, so it's available across every project. To scope it to the current project only, add --scope project — this writes a .mcp.json file that you can check into the repo.

2. Sign in

Inside Claude Code, run:

/mcp

You'll see syntropic listed as needs authentication. Select it — Claude Code opens a browser window for the Syntropic sign-in flow. Sign in with your email and password, continue with Google, or use your organization's SSO if you're on an Enterprise workspace. The session is stored locally.

3. Try it out

Ask Claude Code to do something that touches your data:

"List the tables in my primary Syntropic workspace and tell me which ones have pending approvals."

"Add a data-quality rule to the price column in the accounts table so values must be greater than 0."

Tool calls show inline in the transcript. Because Claude Code is a terminal UI, the interactive table viewer is not rendered — tables come back as Markdown instead. Everything else works the same.

Managing the connection

Useful claude mcp subcommands:

claude mcp list # show all configured MCP servers
claude mcp get syntropic # show Syntropic's config and connection status
claude mcp remove syntropic # disconnect Syntropic
